Pierre Killeen LL.B. LL.L. is a leader and innovator in the field of online public engagement. Trained as a lawyer and fluently bilingual, Pierre has more than ten years of business experience with online communities, public consultations and crowdsourcing. He uses the Internet to help decision-makers solve old problems in new powerful ways. Since 2006, he has been conducting large-scale online public consultations for cities, public agencies and government departments across Canada. At Thornley Fallis, he provides strategic communications and online consultation services to clients in support of their public engagement needs.
Pierre is passionate about using the Internet to engage people and communities in conversations about complex issues and challenges. This commitment stems from his interest in civic life, politics and public policy. He has a track record of bringing innovative Internet services and applications into the education, employment and public opinion research sectors.
From 2006 to 2009, Pierre served as a Vice-President with Nanos Research, where he co-created and then led the development, sales and marketing of Nanos’ online consultation service to a range of clients, including the City of Ottawa, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, Industry Canada, the City of Edmonton and Waterfront Toronto.
Prior to his time at Nanos, Pierre served as the Vice-President of Business Development at Jobshark.com (now www.jobserve.ca). At Jobshark.com, he developed innovative revenue generating applications to meet the recruitment and service needs of private and public sector clients in the education and training sectors.
From 2000 to 2004, he helped ePALS Classroom Exchange (epals.com) become the world’s largest K-12 online education community. At ePALS he brought innovative web-based email services to leading school districts in North America and developed and managed projects with partners that included the Department of Education (US), the European Union (Netdays Europe), Industry Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency.
From 1994 to 2000, Pierre served as the Government Relations Officer for the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Pierre holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Common Law degree and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Ottawa. His interests include history, non-fiction books, any and all kinds of sports, spending time with his family and enjoying heavy rock music. His wife, Heidi Conrod (www.heidiconrod.com) is one of Canada’s top emerging artists.
